“I Know Him!”
“Okay, people. Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Santa’s coming to town!” said the store manager. “Santa?! Here?!”, yelled Buddy enthusiastically. “I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM!!”
If you haven’t seen the movie Elf, consider doing so. It’s one of my favorites this time of year. But what does this have to do with what we are soon to celebrate?
In this scene from Elf, the staff at the store is busy preparing and getting everything ready for Santa’s visit. We are also busy getting everything ready for a visit, but we are somewhat distracted and might miss the true impact of Who it is that is coming to visit – the Son of God come into the world as a little One born December 25.
Do we fully realize the magnitude? I would say – um, nope. I’m equally guilty, and my little mind can’t fully comprehend the true gift that it is. In the midst of our planning and programs and ministries and all the accompanying busyness of this time of year, how important it is for us to reflect on Who we celebrate and to allow Him to ignite our joy and child-like enthusiasm for His coming.
Let’s take a little time for silence to slow down and enter into this mystery. Let us get to know Him – intimately, one on one. What is He saying to you this Christmas season? How is He calling you closer to Him?
On Christmas Eve, may we be filled with exuberant joy… Jesus?! Jesus is coming, here?!? I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM!! Oh, and one other quote from that movie: “I just like to smile … smiling is my favorite.” Consider smiling more this Christmas season!
A merry Christmas to you all as we enter into this holy season celebrating the coming of Jesus!
